Manipal Hospital - SICK HOSPITAL

Due to the recent weather change, my dad fell sick having cough and cold. He had running temp of 101F overnight. Next day morning I took him to Manipal cure and care clinic which is at J P Nagar 7th phase. There I met Dr. Manjunath, who is general physician. He asked to get chest X Ray and then told me that its "pnemoniatic" (Meaning, still not confirmed pnemonia) and asked if I have insurance. I got little scared as pnemonia and swine flue are closely related. I said I do have corporate insurance. He asked me to get my dad admited at Malathi manipal hospital same day.
Afternoon around 3PM I reached malathi manipal which is next to big bazar, ragi gudda temple, jayanagar. I asked for a private room and the billing person asked if I have insurance. Note that all these people are behind insurance. My dad got a 8*8 room with a/c and lcd t v mounted on wall. Its private room costing 3100 plus 8% luxury tax. I wonder what luxury u get in 8*8. There are no windows and lacks total ventilation. I wonder who gave permission to run the hospital without ventilation.
Also, a person with high temp was made to sleep in a/c room! I salute Dr Manjunath. He is a killer who speaks very politely. Soon after my dad entered the room, blood samples were collected to test for pnemonia, malaria. Without waiting for the result, the doc started treatment for pnemonia and malaria. The results arrived next day morning and it turned to be negative. But he continued the medicine for pnemonia, malaria. He requested for second test and even that turned to be negative. He also sent samples to NIMHANS to test for swine flue. Funny part is out of 16 checklists for swine flue, my dad had only 3. Head ache, temperature, body ache. Does a doc who has done MD know about these? Even Swine flue report turned to be negative. I requested doc to get my dad discharged on second day. He was asking me if I can take him home on third day. (Might be he will get one more days business). The final bill came up to 30K for 2 days and still my dad had occassional temp of 99 which was controlled by calpol tab. (doctor didnt mention this tablet at all).
Inspite of spending 30K there was no relief. Other than dealing with untrained nurse staff, trail and error doctor and pathetic hospital. Food from hospital cafeteria is total junk and never come on time.
I wanted to know what made the bill cost 30K, so asked for a breakup. To my suprise, I found that the medicine numbers were manipulated and billed more. After validating with nurse superintendent, pharmacy and billing, it was corrected. The difference was 5K. Also, there was one item - initial checkup which costs 1400. When asked the billing person said that the amount is for initial investigation from the doc. But in my case, its the same doc. I dont know why they charge double. Each doc visit is Rs 700.
These hospital make money in cheating public. They could have instead started a commercial hotel business rather than a hospital.
I urge public to be aware of MALATHI MANIPAL. Its a sick, uncultured, money minded hospital.

Personal Rapid Transport

Heathrow airport of London has recently added its own mass-transit system. These Personal Rapid Transport (PRT) vehicles have their own special track that is narrower than a normal road. They are good for four passengers, and controlled by a touchscreen that allows them to set their destination. From there, they sit back while the automated vehicle cruises at an average speed of 25 mph, without any fear of accidents. The design team had a little help from Mark Lowson, who is one of the original designers of the Saturn rocket for the Apollo missions.

Home Theater Internet Connection Kit by NETGEAR

Netgear unveiled Home Theater Internet Connection Kit. It had picked up the 2009 CES Innovations Award earlier this year. This unique device enables home theater buffs to hook up a handful of Ethernet-enabled entertainment devices including gaming consoles, Blu-ray players, HDTVs and media streaming set-top boxes straight to the Internet as well as the home network simultaneously. This is made possible through the use of a high-speed powerline connection that can hit a theoretical maximum speed of 200 Mbps, making it more than capable of accommodating high-performance applications including HD video streaming, Voice over IP (VoIP), Internet gaming and large file transfers to networked devices in the home theater.
